Branding

Problems posting videos

Q: I hate taking videos of myself to promote my work! Everything about it puts me off -- taking the video, getting the atmosphere just right, saying the right things, not looking stupid -- the list is endless! I know that video is an important part of online marketing but I am paralyzed by these issues. Am I being too much of a perfectionist?

A: To be honest, yes -- it sounds like perfectionism might be getting in your way. Look, no one, I mean NO ONE gets video marketing right the first time, or even the second or third time. It takes some trial and error to learn the best ways to make yourself look and sound your best on camera. And it's different for everyone. My best advice on this point is to check some great YouTubers for tips on how it's done. Musician and Vocal Coach Evynne Hollens is a great example of how to do things right. Study her videos and others related to your field and then start rehearsing. That's right, you might want to rehearse what you're going to say a couple of times before you shoot. Then just jump right in and record your video! You can always scrap it and start over. Break a leg!
