How to attract attention for your work

Q: How do I get my demo in front of the right person? I'm going to all the places but no one is really biting. What am I doing wrong?

A: While there is no magic formula for attracting attention for your work, there are a few simple strategies you can start with:

  1. First, be sure that you have a business card to give to potential producers and referral partners.
  2. Second, make sure you have a place for people to go and check you out online -- whether that is your own website, your LinkedIn page or a spot on someone else's website, like the show you're currently performing in. 
  3. Third, make a point of networking (armed with plenty of your business cards, of course) at as many events as possible to talk up your work, especially if you're just starting out. Talking about your work, both online and in person is the best way to build awareness for yourself and your brand.
