Getting Off the Struggle Bus

I can't believe we are already looking at the end of the year, coming up so fast! This fall sped past me like lightning, mostly spent in dance rehearsals for my super successful Cape Cod Dance Expo I produced last month. What a great event!! With close to 100 performers from 15 different dance groups and studios participating, we all had a blast and made so many new friends. I'm already planning the follow up event...

Meanwhile, the rest of my life waited on hold, including my regular newsletters and blog posts. TBH, after spending so much time dancing this year, I've been rethinking and marinating a couple of new ideas. Then today, I had a long convo with a supersmart close friend of mine and during the course of our chat, I realized a couple of very big things:

ONE: Dance has returned to my life with a BAM! and MUST remain a permanent, regular part of my universe. Yes, the Universe finally sent me snapshots of how to integrate dance -- my first love, my main passion -- into my business and there it will stay. Notes on how that looks coming soon.

TWO: Bringing performers together makes me very very happy. Helping performers to feel secure and confident onstage is extremely satisfying work for me. Performing Artists are my main people. I am a performer. I work for and with performers. I get performers. Performers, you are my peeps. Obvi, right?? Right.

THREE: For the first time in six years, I am NOT spending my holidays chasing projects for next year -- this is a good thing, because I already have work lined up for 2017. THIS IS BIG! After spending the past several years in build mode, my business is no longer on the struggle bus!! We are now in the passing lane!! Tag me tickled.

Wait, what?? You didn't know about my struggle bus time??

Well, I admit things usually look pretty peachy here at The Creative Revolution HQ because I LOVE what I do. Plus, I'm not really into complaining AND negativity is my kryptonite. So even when the going got rough, when there weren't a gaggle of artists knocking down my door to pay for my coaching expertise, when I gained a bunch of weight after knee surgery and felt less than svelte, when I was so overworked and overwhelmed I thought I might drown, when I jumped into projects with both feet and found myself in waaay over my head -- I just kept pushing on through and somehow, kept finding the moto and inspo to stay positive.

Call me crazy, I know. Hey, I'm a stoic, a survivor, a still waters run deep kind of gal.

Listen, I'm not spilling all this tea just because I'm looking for sympathy. Just the opposite. I want you to know that I know all about the struggle bus and I understand how rough it is to be on it.

I get that working your ass off doing what you love and following your passion -- even when the rewards are slow and low -- can be a real effing drag some days.

But I also want you to know that even though I've spent YEARS on that damned bus, I finally yanked on the cord so hard that it finally stopped to let me off at the place I really want to be.

You know what? YOU can do the same thing.

You don't have to give up on your dreams.

You can get off the struggle bus, too. You just have to take some BIG risks, jump on a few BOLD opportunities, DARE to FAIL like a major player.

You know it's true -- all the big names out there have stories of the huge leaps they took when they were still unknown, leaps that catapulted them OFF the struggle bus and into the stratosphere.

Here at The Creative Revolution, I've helped dozens of clients to make bold leaps, take big risks and reap even bigger rewards. As a result, they've landed coverage on BroadwayWorld.com, Oprah magazine and more.

Here's one more confession: I'm a serial risk taker. For real! Ever since I can remember, I've reached beyond the normal bar and above the expected mark for something more. From going away to school in Washington, DC to living abroad in Germany, from always going after what I want to starting my own revolution -- I've pushed out of my comfort zone so many times that it's not even considered a zone anymore! Sometimes, the results were less than stellar, but I've always taken away incredible lessons and experiences that have allowed me to level up in the most badassed ways. And there are always new challenges at the next level.

Before this tea goes cold, I'll let you in on a little secret I'm cooking up... I'm currently putting together a brand new video training series that will help you breakthrough your walls and shatter your glass ceilings to get you leveling up like the badass major player I KNOW you are!

It's coming soon to an inbox near you...

Meanwhile, ask me anything! I'd love to feature your questions on my Ask Ringleader Pam page! Just hit reply and we're rolling!

6 Reasons to Stop Trash Talking Your Money

Hey there, Artist!

Recently, while chatting with a new acquaintance I realized that I hear the same thing over and over again from so many seriously creative, seriously multi-talented Artists -- they are constantly trash talking MONEY! Trashing people who make a lot of money, bashing people who spend a lot of money on art / theatre / designer goods, hating on the people who employ them in side jobs (and pay them money), etc. etc. etc. It's a steady stream of complaints.

I get sooo frustrated because money is not just about BANK -- it's about how you show up in the world and what you communicate about yourself to the people you meet. True story!

Truly, I hear far too many stories, excuses and past-the-expiration-date beliefs that lead amazing Artists with fabulous talent to cave in and hide out instead of allowing themselves to be the incredible creative entrepreneurs they are truly meant to be.

Listen: Allowing your craptalk about money to rule your daily life and how you live it can seriously hold you back and keep you from succeeding BIG TIME.

And I am sooo serious when I tell you that is the LAST thing I want for you! What I really want is for you to STOP the trash talk and START standing up for your inner Artist, so you can attract fans and everything else you want in your life and creative business.

How do you do that? You have to start at the start. As your Ringleader and business coach, I'm here to point out SIX ways that your last century starving artist mentality could be holding you back -- not just in your art and business but also in other parts of your life:

1) You mope around a lot and complain about how there's no money in show business / music business / art world / fashion design (fill in the blank here!). You accept the mantle of the Victim and bend anyone's ear who's willing to lend it about OH WOE IS ME.

***Ugh that attitude holds you back in so many ways! Drop the victim mentality and start filling your head with positive motivational thoughts. It will make a world of difference!

2) You cower behind your computer instead of using it to network on social media, on blogs, or on your own website (you DO have a website, don't you?...) You also avoid showing up at networking events in your community because you've decided that only corporate people -- you know, those sell outs to "The Man" -- do that sort of thing. Artists don't do that. Artists make art.

***Sigh I'm sorry but this is the biggest cop-out ever. Quit playing the Invisible Artist! Get out there and start sharing your talents with the world! That is the ONLY way they will learn about you and your amazing work.

3) You know damn well that you're a unique, multi-talented, amazing Artist. But you don't feel comfortable selling those talents because it feels like boasting and you were taught that bragging is wrong, that you'll repel people if you do it. So you don't really do any selling. So... you don't really sell anything. Zip. Zero. Nada.

***Yeah, see #2. Then just get out there and BE YOURSELF! If you are excited about your work, about getting attention for your work, then just talk about how excited you are! I do it all the time. If you're authentically excited, your excitement will be contagious. BOOM you're sharing and selling and people are buying. You're welcome.

4) You see your exit coming up on the Highway of Life and you know it's NOT the right moment and it's definitely NOT the right exit! It's too soon because you haven't really gone after your really big dreams and hit the big time. You hate to think it's too late, but you feel paralyzed and without a clue how to change course.

***EEEEKKK PULL OVER!!! No joke. Take the detour! Explore, adventure, play and imagine how your journey can be different from here on out. Then just go do it!!

5) You hate making decisions. You hate change. You hate trying new things. You hate how the world is changing so fast. You hate the fact that all the real news happens online. You hate the whole IDEA of online. Newsflash: All that hate is ossifying your brain and fossilizing your heart. I'm just guessing, but you're probably feeling cranky and bitchy pretty often, or maybe you're overindulging in sugar, alcohol or other crutches in order to numb yourself and avoid the real issues.

***Enough with the hate! See #1. Then just force yourself to try something new every day, every week, every month. Never tried raw oysters? They are DELISH! Never learned how to hulahoop? I know a gal who can teach you, shoot me a message! Always wanted to play guitar? Find yourself a teacher and second hand instrument and you're off! Trying new things regularly will work that change muscle and keep it limber and strong -- super important for any creative success story.

6) When you look in the mirror, you have zero idea who you're looking at. After all these years, you still don't know who the hell you are or what you really want to do. You've buried your dreams and passions so deep inside you, sacrificed it all in order to make a living and make ends meet. Now, you're almost a stranger to yourself. And at this point, you worry that it might be too late.

***WRONG! It's never too late! Seriously, I can come up with at least ten stories about late bloomer success stories, including my Dad, who became a lawyer at age 69!

Here are a few more: Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, George Eliot, Mark Twain, Leonard Cohen, Terry Gilliam, Robert Frost, Marina Abramovic, Lucinda Williams, Morgan Freeman, Edward Hopper, Thelonius Monk, Toni Morrison, Kathryn Bigelow, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Maya Angelou, Lucille Ball, Alan Rickman and get this, Dr. Seuss! Stop fretting and just do it.

Tell me, how many of these six signs are true for you? If you identify with even one of these, then you have some work to do, my friend. It's time to put your grownup Artist's shoes on and start sharing your gifts with the rest of the world. Amiright??

Let me ask you this:
If today were the first day of the rest of your life (yep), what ONE THING would you do TODAY to stop your trash talk, start pulling away from all this gunky negativity and finally start showing up as the awesome Artist you know you really are?? Hit reply and tell me all about it!

Are you feeling in your bones that this is the moment for you to change course? Do you want this year to finally be the year that you turn it all around and start becoming the Artist you know you are truly meant to be?

If that sounds like you, then let's talk! Luckily for you, I'm currently offering my VIP training course, The Modern Business Plan for Success in the Arts at a fabulously affordable price (there's even a payment plan option) -- but I only have three spots left!

After those three spots are filled, the price will increase significantly, so be sure to schedule a call even if you're just feeling curious and have a few questions. I can't wait to chat with you!

Are You Planning to Succeed?

How are your plans for 2016 coming along so far? Have you reviewed your goals and objectives for Q1 yet? If not, this would be a great time to get on that, as the end of Q1 is happening in just a few days...

Here's how I do my own review:

1) I look back on all the positive forward motion and action steps taken since January 1st and list them as bullet points in an Evernote file entitled, Q1 2016 WINS. Here are a few of my highlights:

  • Accepted an offer to direct and choreograph Ring of Fire at Cape Cod Theatre Company, hired cast/crew and started rehearsals for our May 12th opening
  • Wrapped up and received my commission on a long term sponsorship deal
  • Attended every session of my leadership class (we're halfway thru) and made tons of new connections so far
  • Scored seven amazing speakers for HobNob Artists Networking events (so far) plus my first facilitator for a new HobNob Biz Secrets workshop series
  • Completed Module 1 in the Holistic Fashionista Academy sales class I'm taking (it's awesome!) and created a super successful survey (you can take it here)
  • Did a radio interview on financial expert, Chris Boyd's Something More show (WXTK); a Blab podcast with Brand Strategist, Heather Poduska; and my leadership Academy seminar on Zoom for Angel Quintana, CEO of Holistic Fashionista
  • Booked a guest appearance on Mindy Todd's popular morning radio show,The Point on March 30th (NPR/WCAI), and on Pandora Peoples' Healing Wisdom show on April 27th (WOMR)
  • Booked a speaking gig for the Art Educators Association meeting at the Cape Cod Museum on April 28th
  • Rehearsed choreography for another sold out production of Cotuit on the Road / Brave Horse Music's hit show, What the World Needs Now at the Dan'l Webster Inn on 3/25 (tonight!)
  • Taught two sessions of dance classes at Cotuit Center for the Arts and booked my class to perform at the Cape Cod Makers Fair in Mashpee on April 30th
  • Booked a gig instructing business courses for post-traditional learners at Bridgewater State University starting in May (stay tuned!)
  • Booked a gig teaching dance classes for Cape Cod Child Development in August
  • Attended Cape & Plymouth Business magazine's first Digital Marketing Summit, wow, that was fabulous! Learned a ton and made a bunch of new connections in just one day!

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good about Q1 2016 -- that's just the short list! Feeling like I'm on track for more wins in Q2.

Now it's time to talk about your Q2! What's your plan? You know, your P-L-A-N. Do you have one?

No, I'm not talking about what time you arrive at work or where you have to drive which kid to which practice after school. I'm talking about the plan to move you forward this year. The big picture. The moving parts and tiny baby steps that will take you outside of your comfort zone. Yeah, that plan.

If you do have one, yippee! You are on track to reaching your goals and succeeding at what you want to achieve. If you don't have one, it's time. Don't you think it's time?

Need some simple solutions? Here's what I do:

1) Use Evernote
Have I mentioned that I LOVE Evernote?? It's an app I use all the time. I have about a gajillion different notebooks in my Evernote. I use Evernote to dictate my writing, on my phone, in my car, while driving. Makes me feel like Jane Jetson. I LOVE it. You can also use Evernote to write down goals that you can look at anytime you pick up your phone. If you're anything like me, you pick up your phone about a gajillion times a day. So make a goals notebook, and start writing.

2) Try the Experts' secret
Write your goals as if they are happening right now. Don't say, I wish I had a million dollars. Say, I am soooo happy and grateful that I have a million dollars! Why am I so blessed to have so much money all the time? It is so wonderful that I always have plenty of money to take care of my bills, my family and all the other things I want to do, have, buy and give. See the difference? Feel the difference.

3) Find a calendar and use it
Try Google calendar, iCalendar or for an inexpensive printed version, go to www.printfree.com, choose a template, then print out all 12 months. That way, you won't have to remember to go back and do this each and every month. Done.

4) Dig out some colored pencils, assign categories and get started
If you're plotting your business plan, maybe you want to fill in marketing, networking, sales, admin, social media, customer service and other events. Don't forget your content plan! And don't EVER forget to block out VACATION time!! It is totally up to you, this plan and its deets. Trust me though, use different colors for each category.

5) Pick different days and/or times for each category
This has to depend on your existing schedule. Try to group similar activities together on the same day/time as much as possible to save you time.

6) Read your goals and review your plan daily or at least weekly
Keep your eyes on the prize. This step is key for motivation. We all need fresh motivation every day, just like we need food for fuel.

Planning is easy, right? Right! You can totally do this.

Did you miss my live seminar on leadership that I did for the Holistic Fashionista Academy last week?

No worries, you can purchase the recordings for a song, and if you want to get in on all the rest of the juicy expert seminars happening this month, just follow this link and sign up for FREE!

Here's what Holistic Fashionista's CEO, Angel Quintana has to say about these seminars:

"Our Academy Seminar Instructors share what’s REALLY worked in their business…

Each instructor has a very different kind of business. From teaching CPR to being a stylist or selling a physical product or retreats, they each share one common theme:

What has worked for them in their business is drastically different than the other! So what does that really mean?

It means that NO two businesses are alike and a marketing strategy that works for one, may not necessarily work for another.

So instead of coercing you into drinking the Kool-Aid, we’d much rather serve you green juice.

So what do I mean by Kool-Aid anyway?

Kool-aid is over-hyped marketing strategies that promise you HUGE, unrealistic results in seconds.

In the internet marketing world, there are A LOT of people teaching “fluffy” stuff. They might give you 1 tool or 1 strategy on how to get ahead in your business, but you never get the whole story. That’s why we prefer Green Juice!

We like our marketing strategies to align with our brands and that means what works for one person won’t necessarily work for you.

What makes the Holistic Fashionista Academy Seminars event different?

• I PERSONALLY vouch for these individuals because I have worked with each of them to grow and expand their business. And most importantly, they are the REAL DEAL.

• I asked them to teach something that has made ALL the difference in growing their business (translation: they wouldn’t be where they are today without it)

This is a live seminar and when I say live I mean you will see our faces LIVE, in the flesh. (No editing. Just raw fuel for your business!)

• They are genuine. It’s hard to find out there when every five seconds someone is promoting how to build a 6-figure business in 5 minutes using Facebook ads and they literally have 30 likes on their page.

I don’t know about you, but here at Holistic Fashionista we are SICK and TIRED of the watered down mumbo jumbo that tastes like a sugary BS internet marketing scam.

Because after all, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Live and learn.

So, get ready for an event that is jam-packed with holistic business advice from an array of niche marketers who are here to show you, there is NO one way to build your business fast. There are LOTS of ways and we are going to talk about 10 of them during this event!

Do me one quick favor and share this event with someone you think is awesome! I’ve built my tribe of rad people because rad people attract rad people."

Leadership Seminar Recap

Did you miss my live seminar on leadership that I did for the Holistic Fashionista Academy last week?

No worries, I'm going to recap it for you right here today. And if you want to get in on all the rest of the juicy expert seminars happening this month, just follow this link and sign up for FREE!

In my seminar last week, I talked with my pal Angel Quintana (CEO of Holistic Fashionista) about leadership and how it has become an essential element of my business growth. We also discussed how creative entrepreneurs like you can tap into your leadership skills to grow your own business.

In the seminar, we offered three main points:

1) Start off by owning your passion and mission
Call yourself by your name: If you're an Artist, shout it out loud! If you're the CEO of your own business, say it! If you're at the top of your game, call yourself a leader! You have to step into those bigger shoes and assume the mantle. Walk the talk, right??

2) Next, decide on your cause/mission
Decide on your purpose so you don't end up like another rebel without a cause. Your mission is your rocket fuel and will keep you motivated for the long haul.

3) Last but not least, get out there and talk it up!
No one will know what you're working on if you don't talk about it. Network, network, network -- both online and offline. The more you talk about your purpose, the easier it gets. The more you advocate for your cause, the more attention you will get for it. The more you promote your mission, the more people you will attract to follow you.

At the end of the seminar, I also quoted some leaders on their thoughts about leadership. I only mentioned a few on the live seminar, but here is my complete list of leadership concepts, followed by appropriate quotes:

  1. Leadership is a privilege

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” —Albert Einstein

  1. Leadership demands a compelling and inspiring message or cause

"Leaders think and talk about the solutions. Followers think and talk about the problems." --Brian Tracy

  1. Focus and clear goals are essential

“Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.” —Farrah Gray
“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” --Walt Disney

  1. Communicate clearly, simply and often

"Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt to offer a solution everybody can understand." --Colin Powell

  1. Use your network – seek out collabs and teamwork -- hire and build good, effective teams -- foster a culture of teamwork

"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them become what they are capable of being." --Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

  1. Be accountable and transparent

“Truth never damages a cause that is just.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
“Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” ― William O. Douglas

  1. Give your people credit where it’s due and more, don’t hog the spotlight – balanced with humble acceptance of admiration

"A leader is best when people barely know he exists. When his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves." --Lao Tzu

  1. Live the qualities of humility, integrity, trust, truth and selflessness

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you'll be criticized anyway." --Eleanor Roosevelt

  1. Have the courage to take risks, take responsibility, stand alone, speak out

"A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent." --Douglas MacArthur

  1. Stay humble, move past/beyond ego, do what you gotta do

"The price of greatness is responsibility." --Winston Churchill

  1. Be willing to compromise and negotiate

“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” —Eleanor Roosevelt

  1. Always be learning, allow change and growth, be a lifelong learner; never stop being engaged and curious

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." --John F. Kennedy

  1. Mentor and be mentored

"The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership." --Harvey S. Firestone

  1. Execute and take action

“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” —Ayn Rand

  1. Be open and say yes all the time, be positive

“Cynics always say no. Saying yes leads to knowledge. So for as long as you have the strength to, say yes.” - Stephen Colbert
“In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.” - Dalai Lama

  1. Learn from and listen to your most unhappy customers, clients, tribe members

"Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right thing." --Peter F. Drucker

  1. Love what you do and do it better than anyone else

"Whatever you are, be a good one." --Abraham Lincoln
“Be so good they can’t ignore you.” --Steve Martin

  1. Surround yourself with smart people, experts; consider your environment

"The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers." --Ralph Nader

  1. Find and practice what inspires you, motivate yourself daily

“People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing--that's why we recommend it daily.” -- Zig Ziglar

  1. Learn from your mistakes – there are no failures, only lessons

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." --Winston Churchill

BONUS:  Assume you’re awesome!
"Don't follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you." --Margaret Thatcher

I hope you find some inspo and moto in these quotes!! Hit reply and tell me what you think!

It's 2016 - Are You Ready?

Whew!! So glad we made it through the tidal wave of holiday events, smile intact!! It really was a fun holiday season here at Creative Revolution HQ, with a whirlwind of parties to attend, shows to see, friends to meet, business to wrap up and planning to do for 2016.

Now that the tinsel is down and the New Year is seriously underway, it's definitely time to get back to business, amiright??

No need for the winter blues, my friend. We've got this.

Here are a few practices to help you feel organized, confident and more than ready to face a whole new year:

1) Income
Make a list of all the business you already know you've got planned for the next 12 months. Divide it month by month and list it out, including how much money you expect to make for each gig.

2) Expenses
Make a similar list, month by month with all the expenses you expect to incur for the year.

There's your budget. Easy peasy, right?

You can always adjust this as things change during the year, but at least you have a good reference point to start with.

3) Marketing/PR
Using your Income list, map out your events, gigs, openings, etc that need marketing and PR attention, month by month. For each event, back up at least one month (two is better if possible) and schedule your marketing and PR efforts such as social media posts, FB events, press releases, etc.

There's your simple marketing and PR plan.

4) Content
Now you can get down to the creative stuff and plan out your content. What new things do you want to create in 2016? What do you want to express, talk about, present, perform, write about, show, etc? See if you can divide it up by month, or by quarter to keep yourself organized.

That's your Content Plan.

5) Growth
This part is all about your goals. If you don't think about your situation at this time next year and the year after that and ten years down the road, you're just going to plod along and let circumstances dictate your future. Is that really how you roll??

No, I didn't think so.

Make your plan, set your goals, write them down, review them often and steer your own course. You're the Captain. YOU decide.

Slay the Scarcity Monsters!

Every year at this time, the Scarcity Monsters rear their ugly heads and send us scurrying for cover in every direction. They keep us up at night with worries about whether we'll have enough money to pay for gifts, family dinners, more presents, more dinners, the electricity bill, the gym membership, the car insurance, the mortgage, the rent, the cell phone and all that other fun stuff.

When the Scarcity Monsters are hovering, we feel grumpy and crabby and everything that the season is not about. Instead of generously opening our hands and hearts and wallets, we allow those pesky monsters to trick us into shutting ourselves down and going into hiding. The very idea of scarcity keeps us in a very small space of lack, want and need.

Well, those horrible SMs absolutely LOVE that! They are just like Voldemort's Dementors, hunting us at our most vulnerable moments, just waiting for their chance to pounce and suck the life out of us.

Sometimes, even a few of my clients who have not quite yet learned to value themselves and their work 100% are seduced by the Scarcity Monsters. They are frightened into thinking there's not enough money to continue investing in their creative businesses. They are cowed into doubting the worth of their talents. They are sometimes even completely scared off from sharing their talents with the world.

Fortunately, I know firsthand how that works, because those evil creatures succeeded with me for many years. But in the end, I won. I found my own protective Patronus and now I use it every time they come around.

That's right, I'm here to tell you one of the most important lessons I've ever learned in this lifetime, one I certainly didn't learn in school. Are you ready for this? Are you sitting down? Because this is BIG.

Newsflash: The Scarcity Monsters are FAKE.

True story! They are just a bunch of windbags! All just smoke and mirrors designed by your own subconscious to keep you in the Bermuda Triangle of fear, doubt and worry -- all in the name of "safety". The funny thing is, we all know that Triangle is not a very safe place to be stuck in. Amiright??

Problem is, our subconscious has not yet caught up with modern living conditions. We no longer have to fend off lions and tigers and bears in our very fortunate First World lives. We no longer have to hunt down and scavenge for our food in order to survive. There is an endless supply of everything we need right at our fingertips, right there for the asking, if only we just ask and receive. Including money!

Don't believe me? That's cool, if you want to hang with the SMs. But I can assure you that there's plenty of evidence to back up what I'm telling you. Just google it and see for yourself.

Meanwhile, for those of you who DO believe me, how can you protect yourself from the SMs, especially at this very emotionally potent time of year? As I said, I've been working on this subject for several years, so now I have a few solid tips for slaying the detested Scarcity Monsters:

1) Put up your hand and just say NO
Your words have more power than you realize. Tell the Monsters to BACK the EFF OFF. Don't let them bully you.

2) Stop the madness
If you let your imagination run away with the idea of scarcity and lack, the SMs will swoop right in immediately. Take charge of your thoughts. Slam the door, bolt it and throw away the key to keep fear, doubt and worry from storming your castle.

3) Take immediate action
Whenever you start to feel like you are losing money, just stop, take a deep breath and start listing new and different ways you can make MORE money. There will always be new and different ways. Take that list and start taking action on it.

4) Surround yourself with positive people and ideas
Negative Nellies have ZERO place in your life when the SMs are on the prowl. Listen to MP3s, read books, watch TED talks -- do whatever it takes to soak your brain, heart, mind and soul in positive vibes. This is your Patronus spell! Don't eff it up.

5) Focus on abundance instead of dwelling on scarcity
Get yourself an abundance mantra, find an infographic to repeat to yourself, recite a prayer, CHANT if you have to. Don't let the feeling of lack get a grip on your throat. It will choke you toute suite.

6) Get thee to thy success journal and celebrate your wins
You've been keeping a success journal, right? Glad to hear it. Open it up and read all about your wins. Then celebrate them! Throw a dance party for one!! If you don't, no one else will.

7) Embrace your money like a lover
One of the weirdest yet most effective pieces of advice I ever found regarding improving my money mindset was to imagine my wealth as my lover. Put a face on it, talk to it, treat it well, etc. So weird, right?? But after finding similar advice in some of the most respected wealth building tomes, I gave it a whirl. Guess what? It works.

8) Find ways to be thankful for everything you already have and write that shit down
Self explanatory. Gratitude is gold.

Try these protective measures. Don't let the monsters get you. Shine a light on their smoke and mirrors. Escape the Triangle of fear, doubt and worry. And by the way, if you need to follow someone with a flashlight and a map, I'm your gal! Shoot me a message and we'll set up a chat!

What We're Working On:

Final Quarter Push

monkeybank.jpg

We've spent a lot of time talking press releases this month in an effort to help you get yourself and your work out there more. Did my tips help? Have you put any of them to good use? Message me, I'd love to hear all about your wins!

Now, with October coming to a close and the final two months of the year upon us, it's time for a quick review of your third quarter, with an eye towards finishing the year strong. Let's review first:

INCOME

  • How was your #artbiz income in July, August and September?
  • Did you reach your targeted sales levels?
  • Did you have any repeat customers/fans/followers?
  • How many new customers/fans/followers did you gain?
  • Are you up to date with all of your invoicing?
  • Have you received all of your outstanding invoices?

EXPENSES

  • Have you logged all of your expenses for the third quarter yet?
  • Did you keep and organize your receipts?
  • Are you up to date with all of your receivables?
  • Have you made all of your vendor and creditor payments on time?

BALANCE

  • Are you breaking even yet?
  • If not, how much would you have to earn in order to break even?
  • Are there any expenses you could reasonably cut until you are breaking even?
  • If you have broken even already, what have you done to celebrate?? =)

LOOKING AHEAD

  • How do your final two months of 2015 look as far as income and expenses go?
  • Do you have a marketing, sales and promotion plan in place for the holidays?
  • What can you do to earn more cash and finish the year in the black?
  • Have you looked ahead to the first quarter of 2016 and developed an income plan for the beginning of the year? How about a sales and marketing plan?
  • What can you do to earn money with your talent in the first few months of next year and start 2016 on the right foot?

These are the questions you must ask yourself as an entrepreneur, my friend. Planning and reviewing are every bit as important as the doing.

TIP: Don't let yourself get sucked into the black hole of worry -- that's like praying for what you don't want to happen! Instead, focus on money making activities. Take a moment every morning to jot down three ideas for making money with your talent, no matter how wild and crazy they might seem. Eventually, a couple of those ideas will stick, just like spaghetti against the wall when it's cooked just right. ;)

Not sure how to do any of this? Take my upcoming workshop, Business Secrets for Creative Rebels and get some help!
