Like last November, I've been posting my "Gratitudes" all month ~ one thing I'm thankful for, every day, for the entire month of November. It's my third year practicing this month-long awareness exercise and I have to tell you, it is incredibly powerful. Back in 2011, I didn't think it would make any difference at all. But I had such a crappy October that year that I gave it a whirl. Believe it or not, that one simple act every day completely transformed my thinking, my feelings and my life. It was amazing!
Last year, the same thing happened. Halfway through November, my business started humming along a little more smoothly. My new romantic relationship blossomed. Friendships and alliances grew and deepened. Extra weight I'd been carrying around started melting off my body. It was kinda cool.
This year, things feel a little different. Instead of expressing thanks with an expectation of experiencing more abundance afterwards (let's be honest here!), this time I feel more connected to my thanks and less connected to the outcome. Like I'm finally getting the hang of letting go of expectations.
Don't get me wrong here, I am still a loud advocate of planning and goal setting. Without those tools, I am like a loose bunny in the woods, as my grandmother used to say! Like many, I really need those tools to help keep me focused and motivated. But this year, I want to look back on 2013 with thanks for where it has brought me, to where I am right now.
So here's a quick rundown of the main results I've experienced in the past 12 months (thanks to a lot of thankfulness!):
~ Started the year on a mission to get more comfortable with my Self and my body in front of the camera (photo courtesy of Amy Rader Photography)
~ Moved my love relationship to the next level, and the next, and the next =)
~ Honed my focus from confidence for women in transition to business confidence to help women fight stage fright and feel comfortable in front of any audience
~ Wrote like a fiend for four online communities for about nine months, which gave me a boost into Expert status
~ Created my own monthly radio show for Holistic Fashionista Network
~ Gained a TON of new followers all across social media, grew my peeps by like 400%
~ Started eating clean, lost 11 lbs and mostly kept them off since March
~ Accepted requests to choreograph two shows in 2014
~ Became part of the Cape Cod leadership team for Believe Inspire Grow (BIG) Women's Networking Group
~ Developed my first virtual group program, Fight Your Fright in 30 Days with an accompanying eBook
~ Updated my website to reflect my more specialized focus on overcoming stage fright
~ Spoke at numerous workshops and networking events
~ Developed my 6 step program to overcome stage fright (coming soon in eBook format!)
~ Started two more eBook projects
~ Started a serious yoga practice and achieved some challenging poses
~ Developed two joint venture projects for two very different live event series in 2014: Everybody Loves Lola with Angel Quintana (nationwide, kicking off in Orlando, FL in February) and From Fears to Fierce with Marsha Danzig (initially New England based, kicking off on Cape Cod in January) ~ both soooo exciting!!!
~ Helped so many clients this year that my revenue more than quadrupled over last year!
Clearly, my progressive shift in mindset from thinking in lack to abundance has really worked.
Truth: I am happier because I am grateful for what I already have. Not the other way around.
Feeling thankful more often than not has kept me grounded in the present. I know that when I relax and let my doubts, fears and worries subside, the positive actions I have taken will eventually take effect.
Truth: The more I say thank you, the more have to be thankful for.
Truth: The more I love my life, the better it gets.
I'll say it again: Saying thank you — to whomever you choose, be it God, the Universe, your banker or your Mom — is the best cure for all kinds of what ails you.
