If you took my Creative Style Quiz last week, you now know more about how you like to work, what gets your creative juices flowing and what your unique creativity blueprint looks like. Our style informs our art and vice versa, right?
So, whether you prefer working alone or with a team, loudly or quietly, spontaneously or with lots of planning, your style has everything to do with how you approach your craft.
You know, I'm willing to bet that your style also has everything to do with EVERYthing. Like how you handle your networking, social media, marketing and sales. How you deal with the press. How you interact with colleagues.
For instance, think about your choices for auditions. What songs and monologues do you tend to present to casting agents? What do you usually wear?
When you exhibit at a gallery, do you show up at the vernissage in your rumpled paint splattered work clothes or do you get cleaned up and dressed up for the occasion?
You see where I'm going with this.
If you want to succeed with your talent, you have to present a cohesive brand to the world. You have to start matching your inner creative muse to your outer personality and vice versa. You can't expect to impress people with your style if you don't really know it or show it. Right?
Right. Let's just nail down a few guidelines for matching your inward creative style with your outward presentation style, shall we?
#1 Always Be Yourself!
This sounds like a no brainer but I'm willing to bet that many of us back down from our needs wants and values when the going gets rough. If you're a People Pleaser, recovering or otherwise, this can happen pretty frequently. Here's my hard earned advice: Don't. Back. Down.
This caveat applies to online and offline situations, social media, networking, friendships, relationships, etc. Always.
#2 Be Open to Experimentation
Now that you know who you are, how you like to do things and what works for you, it's time to step out of your comfort zone every so often. Otherwise, you'll turn all stale and beige and boring.
So... when you see a scarf or an iPhone case that appeals to you, but you say, I like it but it's not me, wait a minute! If you really like it, say, That COULD be me! I WANT it to be me! It's me now. Get the picture?
#3 Add a Dash of Color
Because color is not beige. Color is good for the soul.
Do you have any style tips? What are your rules for presenting your art business brand to the world? I'd love to hear all about it!
