Now that you’ve gotten a few boosts of passion and confidence, I say it’s time to move on and face the rest of this year. It's going to wind down pretty quickly now, peeps. I’m thinking some goal-setting for the rest of 2013 is in order. Who’s with me?? Wait a minute -- before we do that, let’s take a moment to reflect. Yes, that’s right, just stop. Turn around, already. It's the end of August and the clock is ticking. The time is ripe to sit down and take stock. You know I’m right.
Why not grab a pen and paper and play with me?
Okay now, we are going to do this with a POSITIVE spin. NO listening to the negative Self-talkers in our heads. NO negative lists of all the stuff we DIDN’T get done. Eff that noise. Nope, we are taking the fun road instead. Here we go!
Take a look at one area of your life, an area you’ve been working on this year, even if you think you’ve hardly worked on it at all. That’s right, you heard what I said, don’t go scoffing at me. Every little bit counts.
Maybe you’ve been exercising to lose a little weight. Taking a course at school, or trying to increase sales for your business. Have you been working hard to get noticed and get that raise? Oh wait, I know -- you’ve been working on overcoming your stage fright! ;^)
Whatever it is or was, start with that one thing you have been working at the most. Now make a list of all the positive things related to this project that you have already achieved in 2013. See how many things you can come up with. Go for ten!
Ready? Set? GO!
Now, do the same thing for one or two other areas you’ve been working on this year. By the time you are finished, you will have a list of 25 or 30 concrete achievements for the year thus far. How cool is that??
Congratulations! Give yourself a pat on the back. Or a piece of chocolate. Or maybe book yourself a massage! Whatever you do, be sure to reward yourself. You’ve earned it.
The next step is to take a couple of your biggest projects for this year (no more than three) and list a maximum of three goals that you want to achieve for that project before the end of December 2013. Make three lists of three, MAX.
Okay, now take those three lists of three and post them where you can see them EVERY DAY between now and December 31st. Repeat them to your Self every morning and night. Decide what you're going to do each morning to inch your Self closer to those three things. Take stock each evening of what you've accomplished that day to inch your Self closer to your goals. Pat your Self on the back! Don't flagellate!! Congratulate and encourage your Self for your efforts.
Then go eat a piece of (really decadent, really delicious) reward chocolate. =)
